Portraits of Tzadikim

Where is the source for Pnei Melech in the Torah?

Everything has its source in the Torah. So how do we know that having a picture of the Rebbe is of supreme importance, and that based on Torah it is absolutely necessary?

This story takes us back 3,600 years ago…

Yosef, a 17 year old lad at the time, was thrown into a dark pit by his brothers. The pit was full of snakes and scorpions. Scene closes.

The next scene opens up and Yosef is being sold to the Yishmaeilim, who in turn profit by selling him to the Midyanim, until he reaches the hands of Egypt.

Egypt at that time was the superpower – the largest empire in the world. A place overwhelmed with deceit and corruption. Of all places in Egypt, Yosef was placed under the jurisdiction of "the Butcher", a man by the name of Potiphar, who is said to have been responsible for Egyptian capitol punishment!

A 17 year old boy removed from the Yeshiva walls, orphaned from his mother at a young age, was now taken from his loving father. He was lost in the most petrifying place.

Yossele was a charming and beautiful young man. Anyone and everyone was attracted to his presence. It is therefore understood why his master placed him in charge of his entire household. Potiphar's wife also had her eye on Yosef. She invested much time in scheming ways to lure Yosef into sinning, G-d forbid.

In the last moment, our Yossele, Yosef the Tzaddik, saw a picture of the Rebbe. An image of his father, Yaakov Avinu, appeared before him, and while his garment remained in her hands, Yosef was saved!

Chassidim say: the deepest essence of one's soul is not revealed in the synagogue or during study. It is revealed in one's home, when you are "alone". The Rebbe's image reminds us that we are never alone. How great that we always have somebody with us; the Rebbe.

A certain Hollywood Comedian asked a Chabad Chossid why it is a Jewish custom to have pictures of the Rebbe in our homes. He answered with a question: "do you have mirrors in your house?" "Sure. I am a comedian, and my appearance is very important. Before I leave my home, I look into mirrors from all angles to make sure every inch is in place." The Chossid said, "Yes. That is the exact answer, except that when you look into a mirror you see the way you are, and when you look into a picture of the Rebbe you see how you could be!"

This, then, is the point. Because we know, with every fiber of our being, that the Rebbe is a prophet and that the Rebbe is Melech Hamoshiach, we have placed upon ourselves this mission and this purpose. That is to ensure that in every home in the world, of Jew and gentile alike, a picture of the Rebbe will hang.

There is no doubt that this will help lift us to the recognition and Moshiach consciousness, namely, that there is nothing other then Hashem. The Creator is One.

Through looking at the picture, the dark past will dissipate and we will be awakened to bring nachas to the Rebbe. By adding one more mitzvah, and yet another, we will bring the final and complete redemption of all worlds.

Moshiach

Moshiach and a World of Redemption

Moshiach is a vast subject.  Oceans of ink wouldn't suffice to cover this topic.

However, we shall attempt to provide a glimpse.  The Previous Rebbe said regarding the study of Chassidus that it is nothing new.  Chassidus is simply a lantern that enters a room so that all can see what takes place in the room.

A person can be somewhere and have no clue that he is standing in a place of a great treasure.  Well, Sir, here is the simple solution: "turn on the light"!

Maimonides writes that all of Jewish literature is discussing Moshiach and Redemption.  At first glance this is not quite understood.  What could possibly be the connection between the Laws of Shabbos or family purity, and Moshiach?

A relevant story took place when the founder of Chassidism, the Baal Shem Tov, was asked by a student of his, "what is divine providence?  To what extant does G-d really watch over every detail?"

The Baal Shem Tov pointed to a leaf falling off a tree and told the student to follow the fluttering leaf.  The devoted Chossid chased the leaf this way and that, until it came to a peaceful landing on the ground.

The Chossid stood curiously by the leaf waiting for this strange mystery to unfold.  To his great surprise, a worm made a beeline towards the leaf.  It was the greatest possible shade from the beating sun.

The disciple was enlightened.  The creator of the world guides every single detail of His creation.  Every time the wind blows and every time a leaf falls, G-d is revealing great harmony in the world.

Okay, I get, so G-d watches over every detail.  But why?  Why does it really matter to the A-lmighty what happens to a worm, or a rose petal?  The Rebbe answers this question and entirely changes our perspective on the world.  Here it is…every time a blade of grass sways or a bird chirps, it is all for ONE purpose, namely, to bring Redemption to the whole world.  You, me and our environment.  All day and night G-d is turning all the wheels of the world, bringing it to its completion.  That is the simple reality!

Before your children will learn to drive a car, you will undoubtedly teach them the methods of driving as well as the street signs and symbols.  In this fashion they will know that red, yellow, and green are more then just colors!  It is the same regarding Moshiach.  If we want to be conscious of these unfolding moments and be aware of His current presence, then we must learn the Moshiach methods, signs, and symbols.  What will the world look like when Moshiach arrives?  What will happen to technology and medicine?  Will there be wars?  In what spiritual state will He find us?  What is the criteria for Moshiach, Himself, and how will we identify Him?

The simple way to actualize Moshiach in our lives and in our world, is by studying the "Drivers Manual".

It is a simple fact that everybody looks through the lens of their own hobbies and profession.  So when the architect enters a new building, she immediately notices the layout and construction, and when the painter enters a building he gives an estimate for how much the job will run you.

If our hobby and lifelong profession is to bring Moshiach, then all we see every moment of our day becomes Moshiach alertness.  The simple question is, what is the focus of my mind and heart?  Parenthetically, those are the locations of where the Tefillin are worn.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe

The Lubavitcher Rebbe

The Rebbe is a G-dly and miraculous Jew. A Tzaddik who accepted the responsibility of leading Chabad Chassidim into its Seventh Generation in 1950. The Rebbe in effect took the great responsibilty of bringing the world to it its final stage of perfection.

The Rebbe has tremendous love for every Jewish person. If you just think about it for a moment, you will realize that his effect on the world is unbelievable. The Rebbe cares for the physical and spiritual needs of every Jew. The Rebbe successfully touched the spark in every Jew and teaches it to be a passionate fire of trust in Hashem.

The Rebbe ensures that this holy flame doesn't remain in latency, but it becomes a roaring pillar of action.
In the 13 principles of Jewish faith, the Rambam writes, "I believe with complete faith that Moshiach will come…I await his arrival every moment".

There is waiting and then there is….waiting. These, then, are the two ways of living:
1. I am waiting, but in the meantime I keep busy with other things. If Moshiach happens to come today, I will be so happy. I will even prepare him a cup of coffee.
2. The second form of living with this great Jewish principle is, I do everything I possibly can to bring Moshiach. Who does it depend on if it doesn't depend on me???
The Rebbe is not satisfied with a compromise of 99.9%. The Rebbe wants 100% redemption. This means the sovereignty of Hashem needs to be revealed in our world, NOW! There will not be one corner of the world that is not conscious of the Creator giving everything life, every single moment!

The Rebbe once entered the office of his father-in-law, the Rebbe Rayatz, who said to the Rebbe upon entering, "the time has come that we all go to Jerusalem". The Rebbe responded, "but there is so much work left to do". "It was a good thought", replied the Rebbe Rayatz.

The Rebbes call to everyone who lives today is that G-d's infinite light should shine in our whole being. That we should unite the worlds of Holiness with our world.

This is the Rebbes being. This is the being of Moshiach.
Dearest friends, this depends on us!
Moshiach Now!
